I've used it for many years and only had a few problems with it. Most of my problems were really problems with ffmpeg, the video converter program that does the heavy lifting; not the pytivo authors' fault.
I have one complaint that is really also not the pytivo authors' fault but is frustrating. Downloading HD content to my TivoHD takes forever - can't watch in real-time, or you get lots of pauses. Based on my chat with the developers on the forums, it seems that the issue is that the tivo's just too slow. It may work better to "push" because you can then send smaller mpeg-4 files.
I gave up and built a xbmc machine another great open source project ; i've had fewer issues with that. This is OT but getting it working in the first place was a bit of a challenge hint, if "live" doesn't work for you, and you are at all linux savvy, look for XBMCbuntu instructions for building your own xbmc-specific ubuntu box from the ground up.
Must have if you download mkv files and want to watch them through the tivo. Report inappropriate content. Follow the instructions here. See this sticky post in the pyTivo forum here.
Compatible MPEG2 and h. For more information about compatible file formats, look here. Videos transfered to the TiVo are grouped based on the "seriesId" field in the metadata. You must add a valid seriesId to the metadata, and you can only group with existing shows. The seriesID must be something that exists in the current guide data.
TiVo files, the internal metadata takes precedence over the. TiVo files and TiVo-compatible mpeg2 files are streamed directly without transcoding. Other Useful Tools. Post review Show all 3 reviews.
Still a must have for any tivo owner. I love pytivo. Can't see a reason why anyone would choose tivo desktop over pytivo. I did rate it's ease of use at an 8 because it does require a little configuring to get things set up right but once you have it set up it's great. Works perfect to serve video from pc to the tivo. Also a plus that I can use it on both my windows and linux machines. For downloading from a tivo look for kmttg. Review by freebird on Nov 15, Version: wmcbrine I can't believe this works.
This is the best thing since sliced bread, or the flush toilet. Changed two settings and 'boom' showed up on my Tivo. Any thing sittin on your PC that ffmpeg can convert, you can now view on your Tivo.
I get anywhere from 8 to 15 fps on the fly when transferring over Mbps wired to my Tivo S3. The limiting factor for me is the CPU time require for the transcode. If you have a faster CPU, you can achieve realtime transfers. There's a thread about what all hardware people use and how fast they can transfer somewhere on the forum. My page. The above is a quote from dealdatabase forum. No re-encode necessary? If so, that will be too good to be true!
Looks like HTML is off. That doesn't apply to you because your movies are already well formed mp4 files with h and AAC 5. You should be able to use them with wmcbrine's streaming app, but I doubt you'll get 5.
You'll probably get stereo. Some of that has been solved since the time of that quote.
