Eff this crap. There are coincidences, and then there's lazy-ass-I-couldn't-give-a-crap writing. This is the latter. Lore inputs "hints" of things to come with all the subtlety and grace of getting hit by a Mack truck.
I'm only halfway through and already the lizard, the dog, and what happened with the elders is blatantly obvious edit: I was right on all counts. Overall, very "meh". Dangerous Days of Daniel X did it better. I had forgotten that I read this book until a friend put a review up. Then I remembered that I hated it. Its title is by far its best feature. Wasn't sure I would get into it because it seemed more like a guys alien story, but I could not put the book down.
Soo good!!! I can't wait to read the next book! I really enjoyed this book, although I felt that some of the writing felt a little juvenile.
I attribute that, partially, to it being from the point of view of a 15 year old boy, which I am not accustomed to. It had a wonderful plot that left me searching to find if there would be a second book, and there was plenty of back story which I love. There were a few grammatical errors that I saw, but that doesn't bother me too much so I was still able to enjoy the book despite that.
The book really did grab my attention. At first. The writing was good. I liked how John started developing his powers throughout the book. I really did prefer the sidekicks in this novel; Henri, Bernie Kosar, and Sam.
All three were my favorites. Both Henri and Bernie deserve a lot of kudos for what they went through for John and their actions literally drove me to tears. Sam also proved to be a very loyal friend and pull through for John, and their friendship is a good one. The plot was all right. I liked reading this part of the book, and it also gives you information on Henri and what his purpose is.
Everything seems to be going well, including a couple of scraps with Mark, and some troubles with hiding his real identity. Then throughout approximately halfway through the pace slows down.
For some reason this just slows down everything and it gets annoying and infuriating. John seems to be oblivious to the danger surrounding him, and his romance with Sarah, although sweet, just seems to be more of a page filler than anything else.
At this point of the book, I was starting to get frustrated. Oh for crying out loud. Yes, I was rewarded! I loved reading this part. Even though the pace does slow down midway, sticking through with it does end up being rewarding. A teen sci-fi novel which is easy to follow and action-packed, funny, and entertaining. This is a book that's hard to put down once you start reading it. Aliens who look like humans trying to save our planet from the same fate their own planet suffered; destruction from the hands of the Mogadorians.
The planet Lorien was destroyed by the Mogadorians who needed their valuable resources. In an effort to save their race, the Loriens send nine young people who have been born with super powers are called Gardes. Each Garde was sent to Earth with a Cepan, or Keepers. The Cepans help the Gardes develop their special powers. Number Four and his Cepan have changed residences constantly to avoid the Mogadorians who are trying to kill the remaining Gardes.
Three Gardes have been killed Now, Number Four is next. I liked it a lot. Sure, there are some very "convenient" moments. But it's a young adult novel so I cut it a lot of slack. Look at it like you'd look at a Superman story. Superman has to keep his identity a secret from his love interest, so of course she happens to be placed in dangerous situations that require Superman to shed his secret identity and save her. I really tried but I did not enjoy this book I kept waiting for it to get good but it never did.
