Based on what is believed of the way Celtic warriors looked, Senua was given war paints, and braided hair clumped with lime. The gameplay of Hellblade is primarily focused on exploration and combat. Players explore detailed environments based on the mythology of Norse gods and realms in order to guide Senua to her eventual goal of the underworld of Helheim.
The environments can contain visual based puzzles of locating Norse runes in the world in order to unlock gates and seals, which Senua can find by Focusing on them. In addition, there are numerous Lorestones that can be collected in order to learn more information about the legends of the Northmen. Certain areas of Hellblade force Senua into combat with hellish manifestations of the Northmen.
When in combat, Senua has access to both light and heavy attacks with her sword that she can use in a combo system to strike her foes down. She has the ability to dodge incoming attacks and can also guard against enemy strikes. She can even parry those strikes when timing her guard correctly and temporarily stun them, though some attacks that are blocked with incorrect timing with temporarily stun her instead.
Once she obtains Gramr, Senua can charge her heavy attacks for additional damage and parries more efficiently, both of which can allow her to use her focus ability.
If Senua suffers a strong hit, or several hits in a row, she falls to the ground, and the player must press the corresponding button repeatedly as fast as possible before an enemy deals her a fatal blow; if she does not get back up in time, she dies. The closer she is to death, the harder it is for her to get back up; she can also die from a regular hit, if she was already very close to death.
Hellblade does not feature any HUD or tutorials. Instead, Druth, Furies, or the Darkness, provide audio indications on game mechanics, and how to progress through levels and puzzles. The Furies also provide Senua advice in battle, notably warning her if an enemy is attacking from her back. They react when Senua takes damage, and panic heavily if she is close to death: how nervous they are when she takes a hit is representative of how much damage she can still take.
The nature of most apparitions, events witnessed, or voices heard, is purposely left unclear, and can be interpreted as either an actual apparition by a spirit, a memory of Senua, or a trick created by the Darkness or one of the deceptive creatures she has to face. As such, the clues given during the game are not always reliable, except for Druth's: certain Furies try to demotivate Senua, or give false indications such as telling her she took the wrong way, or that she is walking into a trap.
Another core mechanic is the possibility of permadeath, which is meant to delete the player's save data after they surpass a number of deaths. Plot Set in the late 8th century, the game starts with Senua Melina Juergens , a Pict warrior from Orkney arriving at the border of Helheim in a quest to save the soul of her dead lover, Dillion Oliver Walker , from the goddess Hela.
Another brilliant journey is on the horizon from what we can make of it. The blend of Celtic and Nordic mythology will protrude even further - much to fan happiness. There's already a lot to love when considering how well the previous game was delivered - with only potential to build upon. Little detail has been given about the gameplay - but we expect much the same before.
The core focus of the original game was the storyline. So the narrative will predicably be the centerpiece once again. The new location has already been confirmed, but what Senua is doing there is yet to unravel. So if you need a save file for a specific location, you can attempt to discern which would be the right file for you based on the handful that I named.
